Process
Adoption, it’s a loving
choice.
Whether you are thinking of adopting a child or thinking of placing your child for adoption, there are many factors you will need to take into consideration before making the final decision.
Get the
relevant information regarding adoption in Singapore at the official MSF (Ministry
of Social and Family Development) portal: www.adoption.gov.sg
You will
also be able to get detailed information on adoption by attending the Pre
Adoption Briefings conducted by MSF accredited agencies.
Topics
discussed during the briefings include:
- Is adoption suitable for you and your family?
- How much does it usually cost?
- How long would it usually take?
- How and where can you source for a child?
- What are the process and eligibility criteria of adoption in Singapore?
- What are the rights and responsibilities of adoptive parents?
- What are the needs of adoptive child?
- Other issues related to adoption such as the rights of birth families, birth searches and disclosures.
Do clarify
all your doubts in the Q&A session during the PAB. Our Adoption officer
will be available to provide the relevant answers during that period.
Should
you require a one to one consultation with the Adoption Officer, please contact
us below or email us at acoss@apkim.com to
arrange for an appointment at $160/session (1-1.5hrs). We regret that our
Adoption Officers will not be responding to emails, calls or drop ins and our
reception counter officers will not be able to assist you on adoption matters.
All
prospective adopters are required to attend the Pre Adoption Briefing before
starting on their adoption journey. Registration for the Pre Adoption Briefing
can be done at the adoption portal: www.adoption.gov.sg After
attending the PAB and deciding to take the next step in your adoption journey,
you can register for a Home Study Report at the same MSF adoption portal. The
agencies conducting the HSR will indicate the estimated waiting time for the
first appointment after your complete submission of all required
documentations.
Prospective Muslim adopters who are interested in a match for a Muslim child may write in to ACOSS at acoss@apkim.com after they have received a favourable HSR. They will then be placed on ACOSS waiting list and will be contacted when there is a Muslim baby placed for adoption.
If you are thinking of placing your child for adoption, our Adoption Officer will get in touch with you and explore all possible options that you have. ACOSS focuses on placement of Muslim child adoption to Muslim families only. During our initial discussion, we will walk through with you of your situation and sometimes, having the access to the correct resources may help provide the needed support so that the child can continued to be cared for and no longer need to be placed for adoption. Our Adoption Officers have the interest of the child as our priority and will ensure that all relevant information is shared so that an informed decision is made regardless of the outcome. Ultimately, you will have a safe space to take your time to discuss your concerns and make decisions that you will be comfortable with. If placing the child for adoption is the decision you have made, our Adoption Officer will ensure that the process is done following the guidance of the Syariah rulings.
